RAAF Museum Amberly

RAAF Museum Amberley

Although Bel & John went out and about on their own and explored, Bel’s choice was RAAF Museum Amberley .
On Sunday we set off on a beautiful sunny morning which just got better as the day went on.
A great display one Sue & I will go back to often I am sure, hopefully with the grandchildren.
Although there was only static displays Amberley does have big event open days as well.
Be prepared with good walking shoes and let them know early if you need a disabled or have difficulty walking as parking is otherwise a long hike.
The Brisbane Commodore Car club also had a display.

Ipswich Railway Workshop Museum

Ipswich Railway Workshop Museum

Just had a week visit from daughter and son in law so many things put on the back burner but not completely I did get some time cutting with the SCMS that will all be revealed at a latter date.
It was a great time spent together our first outing was John’s choice to the Queensland/Ipswich Rail Workshop Museum.
The display is still growing just a shame that no access is allowed through the main repair and blacksmith shops. They do have a resident blacksmith a female and she was there on the day, this for me would have added to the guided tour we had through the restoration shop.
Still the exhibits are all excellent many accessible even in a wheelchair although some not in side.

There is on display some of the tools which were used in building the carriages as well as the rolling stock.

It’s not often you get to see the Pattern Makers work this has to be the most extensive display I have seen and there is a whole lot more.

Some Quickies in the Workshop

Some Quickies in The Workshop

Due to a Tall Boy chest of draws not fitting in anywhere I have scored this for the workshop it now houses my growing collection of planes, chisels and saws. That leaves me two draws for other things….hum what else can I collect and store ha ha ha.
Two bottom draws needed some repair one a simple glue the other a full re-work of the runner area I still have that to take care of.

The Nova 3000 Lathe got a paint job to brighten it up after it was mounted on the stand.

A much needed large post tube added to the letter box also allows for those advertising catalogues to have  place to be put instead of clogging up the main letter box.

Enjoyable Afternoon

Enjoyable Afternoon

Slow going with projects this week and there is more than one on the hop as usual I’ll leave those till further along.
Saturday afternoon Sue and I headed into Ispwich Street Feast this takes place in the older part of the shopping district. Many an old building still stands adding to the atmosphere with the section of Brisbane street closed off.
Live bands, food vans, street full of people, stalls and even a piglet race and kids petting zoo.
Thursday Sue ventured to the local Spinners and Weavers and joined up, they were there on Saturday demonstrating and selling the garments made. One lady having her Peacock New Zealand Rimu timber spinning wheel a most unusual configuration.
Vintage cars display caught my eye as well as some interesting things to do with old push bikes.

Hows this idea for the old pushies and a slab? The big one is very impressive as a hall table.
In a way its a shame seeing such as these historical bikes not restored.
