First go at Milling on The Myford

I set up the vertical mill on the ML7 for the first time so I could try rescue the rouge T-nuts from the set I bought see this post on Myford T-Nuts . This was a case of teaching myself set up procedures, use of mill/drill cutters as well as speed and feed rates for best results.

Each T-nut had to be done individually all twelve of them as not one was the same it was a slow task but I did learn a lot while doing them. The right way to have the tool enter the material for cutting the face as well as the L section.
I found the gib needed adjusting on the vertical mill as well as on the cross slide as a little vibration was noticed.

Out of the twelve sorry that should be eleven as one of the kits was missing one, I have at least nine which I will use one thread area was breaking through the side even prior me trying to clean them up to fit.

That magnetic P-plate was a time saver in cleaning up.

An Afternoon in a Cemetery.

Over the last few weeks Sue and I have attended two funeral's one of a long term friends  19 years old son and the other a friend from the Ornamental Turners Group I was a member of. These fellows will sadly be missed.

To get an invite to attend a third cemetery for an exhibition of works by various Artists and Sculptors was an opportunity not to be missed.
The invite came from Mark Aylward a Sculptor and Furniture Maker who is The Solid Wood Furniture Company .
Along with Helen his partner who runs Helen Stronach Archietects together worked on their combined project to enter it into HIDDEN which is held at Sydney''s Rookwood Cemetery.

I/we have been to openings at galleries and had time strolling through gave yards admiring head stones reading life stories on them and the history of those departed but not the two combined and to be given a guided tour by the two artists was a delight along with meeting more of their friends.

Here is a sample of the works as we saw them.

Rookwood is not Sydney's oldest cemetery yet it has an incredible hidden view of Sydney skyline, its mass of old graves tree's and its setting could have a photographer busy for weeks.
In 1792 the main burial ground for the colony was established on a site which is now occupied by the Sydney Town Hall and St Andrew’s Cathedral, until it became full and a new cemetery was established near the brick-fields, known as the Sandhills or Devonshire Street cemetery. However, by the 1840’s, this too began to run out of space and so the search began for another, much larger site for a cemetery.

Antique Machinery

On Sunday we ventured out to Clarendon in the Haweksbury area for a day presented by Sydney Antique Machinery Club Inc. This was a two day display by many groups far and wide who brought their trucks, cars, tractors, steam engines, chains saws, even a couple of buses and motor bikes. A great day out for the whole family entry was very reasonable at $7 across the board entry. Well laid out easy access to see almost eveyrthing some of the trucks were parked a little to close for a wheelchair to fit between.
This day had everything for myself to see Sue enjoys the machines.

Timber being cut using a belt driven saw the green table tilts towards the blade and cross cuts they were cutting up old fence plalings and fire wood. On the back of the green truck they were splitting the logs length wise.

Steam boiler being loaded.
